ELEKTRA

BY SOPHOCLES, TRANSLATED BY ANNE CARSON

THE DOG THEATRE

PREMIERED DECEMBER 2010

"The play summons darkly feminine turbulences that drive it towards its grim climax...in the mouths of this most accomplished cast, around a stunning central performance...it plays with a compelling muscularity." ALISON CROGGON - THEATRE NOTES

Years after the death of her father at the hands of her mother, Elektra is staging a revolt. An outcast in her own home, she will not cease from her mourning. She 'cannot not grieve.'

Carson's ELEKTRA is a sparse, poetic and fiercely contemporary take on Sophocles ancient myth. Set inside the intimate walls of The Dog Theatre, ELEKTRA is an invitation to the audience to enter and observe, from right up close...
